Light Warp is a free online visual effect. A colorful grid is warped, stretched and refracted by a lens-like gravity center, with ripples flowing under the cursor. Interactive eye-candy rendered live on your screen. It runs entirely in your browser — no download or sign-up needed.
Opening the page will show the effect of the background image or video being distorted by the gravitational field, just like the gravitational lensing effect that occurs when light passes through a massive celestial body. Parameters such as distortion intensity and gravitational source position can be adjusted.
The whole process is pure front-end animation. A WebGL-based shader program uses a distance field to calculate the amount of distortion per pixel and simulate the gravitational lensing effect.
It is suitable for use as science fiction decoration, physics science popularization, or purely appreciating the visual effects of light distortion. The implementation principle is a simplified version of the gravitational lens equation.
